Brisbane tech co nets top design award

A Brisbane-based technology company has received a prestigious design award for a new IoT product.

The company, mIoT, netted a Gold Award for Design Excellence at Australia’s Good Design Awards for its Captis Multi IoT product.

Designed and manufactured in Brisbane, the Captis Multi allows businesses to remotely measure, monitor and manage their assets and infrastructure. The product was recognised in the Engineering Design category for its durability, robustness and being ease to work with.

The Good Design Awards jury commented: “The market to connect existing infrastructure and assets with data is nascent and requires solutions that are robust and easy to work with. The team behind the Captis Multi IoT is to be congratulated for engineering a device that is durable, water-resistant and agnostic to the different types of sensors required for specific applications. The Captis Multi IoT knows the place it seeks to play and to win, and should find a willing market.”

Captis Multi is used across a range of industries, including water and wastewater, mining, agriculture and transport to allow businesses to easily maximise uptime, reduce operating costs and improve sustainability.

“We’re exceptionally honoured to have our product associated with the Good Design Awards,” said mIoT CEO Gerhard Loots.

“The digitisation of industries and infrastructure represents a massive opportunity for Australia to help combat climate change and to do things better. Building solutions for this industry requires exceptional engineering and design to ensure solutions are tough and fit for purpose — we’re proud of our team’s efforts and grateful for the judges’ recognition of it.”

The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced on Friday, 16 September, with projects rewarded across 11 design disciplines covering more than 30 categories and sub-categories.

Projects recognised with an Australian Good Design Award demonstrate excellence in professional design and highlight the impact a design-led approach has on business success and social and environmental outcomes.
