Funding powers development of energy monitoring and management system
A Tasmanian company is one of three companies to receive funding from the first round of the $200 million Clean Technology Innovation Fund. Launceston-based Definium Technologies has received $134,135 to develop technology aimed at reducing the cost of power in commercial buildings.
Definium has created an innovative energy monitoring and management system called the Mediator, which allows users of commercial buildings and facilities to better understand and identify their energy usage.
The system will be able to read and control separate systems in a building, such as heating and cooling, lighting, ventilation, alarms, refrigeration and monitoring, and can be linked to Mediators at other sites.
“Tasmania is leading the way in the clean energy race with around 40% of Australia’s renewable energy generated in the state,” said Minister for Industry and Innovation Greg Combet.
“This grant will help Tasmania keep its edge in the clean energy economy and shows how with simple steps and smart, affordable technology you can drive down power costs, save money and reduce carbon emissions.”
The government says the Clean Technology Innovation Program will help create new business opportunities, new industries and new jobs. The program provides grants of between $50,000 and $5 million and applications are being accepted continuously.
