New intruder alarm and CCTV standards

Wednesday, 23 July, 2008

SAI Global has released the latest intruder alarm and CCTV Australian Standards — AS/NZS 2201.5:2008 ‘Intruder alarm systems — Alarm transmission systems’ and AS 4806.4 — 2008 ‘Closed circuit television (CCTV) — Remote video’.

Both standards provided are part of a larger series of standards and specify the requirements for the performance, reliability and security characteristics for alarm transmission systems used as part of an intruder alarm system and recommendations for the operation and management of CCTV within a controlled environment, respectively.

AS/NZS 2201.5:2008 sits alongside the AS 2201 ‘Intruder alarm systems’ series, which provides guidance on requirements for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of intruder alarm systems and includes specific standards on monitoring centres.

AS 4806.4 — 2008 applies to CCTV systems used in public places and outlines best practice guidelines for all CCTV operation. It sits alongside the AS 4806, ‘Closed circuit television (CCTV)’ series, which include guidance on management and operation, application guidelines and PAL signal timings.

The documents can be procured from SAI Global at www.saiglobal.com/shop.
