Non-cogging AC servomotor

Monday, 01 December, 2008 | Supplied by: M Rutty & Co Pty Ltd

The non-cogging MLL series of AC servomotors has no teeth in the stators, so there is no reluctance variation in the 360° motor rotation.

The absence of slots is claimed to improve motor performance because the magnetic flow is not modulated by stator teeth. As a result, ripple torque and current fluctuations are minimised.

Other advantages of non-cogging motors are the removal of eddy currents typically produced by stator teeth, which impact on torque and generate heat spot, while magnets do not have a preferential situation of static balance compared to classic stators with teeth.
