10-year deal brings Ampcontrol closer to net zero goals
Ampcontrol has entered into a 10-year deal with renewable energy provider Flow Power in order to offset the operating emissions for its NSW sites and support the local renewable energy industry.
Under the 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA), Ampcontrol will initially source GreenPower-certified electricity, with large-scale generation certificates (LGCs) obtained from the Karadoc Solar Farm in north-western Victoria for the first 18 months.
For the remaining eight-and-a-half years, Ampcontrol will take generation from both a NSW wind and solar farm in order to match its consumption profile as closely as possible. Together, the wind and solar projects are expected to deliver 100% of Ampcontrol’s energy requirements per annum, including LGCs.
Leading up to the PPA, Ampcontrol formed a renewable energy buying group with other Hunter-based organisations. This was made possible through Ampcontrol’s participation in the NSW Government Sustainability Advantage program. The program allows companies with similar net zero ambitions to notionally pool their power use and go to market having gained the economies of scale necessary to facilitate PPAs with renewable generators.
“This is a significant milestone on our net zero journey and is a great example of collaborating for impact. By joining other organisations, we are able to invest in the renewable energy industry right here in the Hunter,” said Sam Parris, Ampcontrol Sustainability Manager.
The long-term renewable power purchase agreement allows Ampcontrol to directly support its peers in the renewable energy industry and show its commitment to the decarbonisation of industry, starting with its operations. The company has an interim net zero target of a 60% reduction in operational emissions by 2030.
“Flow Power is proud to be partnering with Ampcontrol as they take this exciting step towards achieving their net zero goals,” said Jacob Mahoney, Chief Revenue Officer at Flow Power. “Such collaborations are pivotal in propelling Australia towards its renewable energy targets, fortifying grid stability and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy sources.
“At Flow Power, we are dedicated to pioneering innovative solutions that seamlessly connect our customers to renewable energy projects. Through our collaboration with Ampcontrol, we’ve designed an energy plan that caters to their unique energy needs.”
