ADC Krone wins Electrical Communications Excellence Award
ADC Krone won the ‘Data Project of the Year Award’ at the 2009 Electrical and Communications Association Excellence Awards held in Brisbane for its involvement in the Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence (PACE) building in Queensland.
The 2009 ECA Awards recognise outstanding achievement throughout the electrotechnology industry and the PACE project has become the benchmark of world’s best practice for communications infrastructure installation for all of the university’s subsequent works.
The win follows lengthy collaboration with the University of Queensland, the University Networks group and SDF Electrical for the installation of seven floors of communications infrastructure in the newly built PACE building.
The building is the vision of the University of Queensland and the Queensland government to create Australia’s leading biotechnology and bio-therapeutic research and development facility. It is the Southern Hemisphere’s most advanced pharmacy teaching and research facility, including state-of-the-art teaching labs, lecture theatres, offices, joint university/hospital library and 360-seat high-tech auditorium.
University Networks Group Manager Thomas King indicated that this project was successful due to the great teamwork displayed from the Property and Facility project manager Sherron Irwin, SDF Electrical, ADC Krone and the University Networks group, stating: “The PACE project demonstrates the new standard of telecommunication cabling and associated infrastructure we are going to be deploying in all of our new buildings at the university. The staff involved from ADC Krone, SDF and UQ can be very proud of their achievements with the PACE project.”
ADC Krone provided fibre and copper connectivity, including dynamic angled patch panels to maximise density in communications rooms and the available floor space. ADC Krone used a combination of high-performance copper and fibre cable and its portfolio of connectivity and cable management solutions.
“ADC Krone and the University Networks group spent two years developing a standard of excellence in installation practices and procedures built around writing, implementing and enforcing our collective communications guidelines,” said Justin White, ADC Krone Corporate Sales Executive. “The resulting win is testimony to two years of hard work bringing together the right contractors and a team-orientated approach.”
John Smithers, Communications Project Manager for SDF Electrical, added: “The success of the PACE project was made possible by a strong alliance between SDF Electrical, University of Queensland and ADC Krone, and the result speaks for itself. The whole SDF Electrical team takes tremendous pride in being recognised for high-quality workmanship and an installation that exceeds clients’ expectations.”
