ANZ projects pick up 3 'Going Digital' infrastructure awards
Bentley Systems, an infrastructure engineering software company, has announced the winners of the 2022 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure. The annual awards program honours the extraordinary work of Bentley software users in advancing infrastructure design, construction and operations throughout the world.
Finalists presented their projects at the 2022 Year in Infrastructure and Going Digital Awards event in London before global press and 11 independent jury panels. The jurors determined the winners of the 12 award categories from 36 finalists that were shortlisted from close to 300 nominations submitted by more than 180 organisations from 47 countries.
The Australian and New Zealand projects named as winners for the 2022 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure were:
Construction category
ACCIONA: ‘Safely Removing Dangerous Level Crossings through Digital Construction’ (Melbourne)
As part of Melbourne’s level crossing removal initiative, an AU$744 million project was deployed to remove 20 level crossings and construct 13 new stations along the Frankston Line. The team wanted to ensure efficient design and timely delivery of the project.
By leveraging Bentley’s collaborative modelling and construction simulation software, the team established a connected data environment and created a digital twin to streamline workflows and provide unparalleled insight into constructability and construction monitoring.
Facilities, Campuses, and Cities category
Sydney Airport: ‘Maps@SYD’ (Sydney)
Officials at the facility initiated a project to implement a cloud-based, self-service portal to support facilities planning and operations by integrating spatial and survey information, making it accessible to all staff across the organisation.
Already familiar with Bentley’s modelling and mapping applications, the team selected OpenCities, integrating different types of financial and asset data and metadata, models and documents from multiple systems. This integration provides real-time collaboration and 3D-viewing capabilities for planning, auditing and facilities management.
Roads and Highways category
Waka Kotahi and FH/HEB JV, Beca Ltd: ‘Takitimu North Link’ (Tauranga, Western Bay of Plenty, New Zealand)
Leveraging Bentley’s open modelling applications, the team established a connected data environment and digital twin that will simplify construction of a road in a constrained location. Through collaborative digital modelling and 3D visualisation, they reduced modelling time by 15% and improved design efficiencies by 20%, while achieving higher quality deliverables compared to previous design methods. The digital twin enables data integration for construction activities and future management and maintenance of roadway operations.
Additional APAC winners from the Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure included: POWERCHINA Hubei in the Grid category for its ‘Full Lifecycle Digital Application in Wuhan Xudong 220 kV Substation Project Wuhan’; PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk in the Rail and Transit category for the ‘Integrated High Speed Rail & Station Jakarta — Bandung’; and in the Surveying and Monitoring category, Singapore Land Authority for its ‘SG Digital Twin Empowered by Mobile Mapping’.
