Downer EDI Ltd recently announced it has been contracted to provide telecommunications network design services to NBN Co for its First Release Site pilot program.

Downer Telecommunications' CEO, Peter Reidy, said the win reflects the depth of expertise and experience of the partnership between Downer and Australian telecommunications engineering specialists Kordia Solutions and augers well for future opportunities in the growing telecommunications sector: “We are delighted to have secured the First Release site design contract with NBN Co to design an aerial broadband network in Townsville. We have been part of the Townsville community for a long time and this project will provide significant economic stimulus for the local communities.

“Downer has been designing and building critical infrastructure for cities and nations around the world for more than a century and we see the opportunity to work with local communities in the development of a state-of-the-art, cost-effective broadband network for all Australians is very significant.”

The Downer Kordia venture was selected following a competitive tender process and is the first in a significant pipeline of opportunities for the venture in the areas of telecommunications network design, construction, operations and maintenance.

Downer’s breadth of capabilities in infrastructure services delivery throughout regional and metropolitan Australia is complemented by Kordia’s network engineering expertise.
