Energy-efficiency training for electricians goes regional
The EcoSmart Electricians program provides training in the latest energy-efficient products, technologies and installation issues, as well as regulatory requirements relating to energy efficiency. The training and accreditation course is designed to provide participants with the tools to cater for the environmentally-conscious consumer.
The program was very successful in the Perth metropolitan area in 2008 and, due to its popularity and the support of the WA government’s Sustainable Energy Development Office (SEDO), will be taken to the regional areas of WA.
NECA WA Group CEO Peter Tuck said the SEDO support has provided more opportunities to train electricians in remote and regional areas who would otherwise not be able to participate due to time and cost constraints: “It’s vital that we make this training as accessible as possible to electricians in regional areas, so that they, like their metropolitan-based colleagues, can pass on their higher-level knowledge and skills to their customers regarding energy-efficient products and technologies and advise them on how to reduce energy consumption. These issues are just as important, if not more so, in regional and remote areas as they are in the cities.”
The EcoSmart Electricians program will be reaching the regional areas from July to September where demand from industry is highest — Albany, Geraldton, Bunbury, Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie.
