Future Made in Australia at risk, Smart Energy Council warns
The Smart Energy Council has strongly criticised the Liberal and National Parties for opposing the federal government’s Future Made in Australia Bill, which has been debated over the past week in the House of Representatives, following the second reading of the Bill.
The Acting CEO of the Smart Energy Council, Wayne Smith, said the Bill would lay the foundations for Australia’s economic prosperity, providing the basis for production tax credits and other measures to support critical minerals value adding, smart energy manufacturing, renewable hydrogen and ammonia, and green iron and metals projects.
“With the world’s best solar and wind resources, innovative companies and skilled workers, Australia can lead the world in the trillion-dollar global push towards net zero, but … all of that is at risk,” Smith said.
Smith added that Opposition Leader Peter Dutton must distance himself from Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor’s longstanding attacks on the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
“The Smart Energy Council calls on the Federal Parliament to pass the Future Made in Australia Bill, with amendments to maximise the creation of new green jobs and ensure local communities reap the benefits of the jobs and industries of the future,” Smith said.
