Legrand acquires Aust company VASS Electrical Industries
Legrand, the global company specialising in electrical and digital building infrastructure, has acquired Australian business VASS Electrical Industries.
Based out of Ingleburn, NSW, and employing 35 people, VASS has specialised in Busway power distribution solutions since 1958. The company now has a strong focus on the data centre market, as well as commercial and infrastructure segments.
The leased data centre sector within the Australian data centre industry is currently undergoing dynamic growth, with an anticipated CAGR of 15% in revenue over the next three years driven by increasing internet traffic, AI and the surge in cloud computing.1
Data centres is also one of Legrand’s fastest growing segments, contributing to approximately 15% of its sales globally. In Australia alone, Legrand has seen double-digit growth year-on-year on its data centre offering.
By combining VASS’s Busway power distribution solutions with Legrand’s existing electrical and digital building infrastructure products, the companies aim to provide a comprehensive offering to customers.
Palash Nandy, CEO at Legrand ANZ, said the investment in VASS, along with the acquisition of New Zealand cabling company Mechanical Support Systems (MSS) in December 2023, demonstrates the active implementation of Legrand’s growth strategy in the ANZ market and its focus on increasing its local manufacturing footprint.
“We are thrilled to welcome and work with the team at VASS. I’m confident that our combined market strengths and complementary solutions will improve the lives of our customers and accelerate their electrical, digital infrastructure and sustainability goals,” Nandy said.
Christopher Vass, VASS Managing Director, said joining Legrand was “a win-win situation”.
“It was a logical next step for us as Legrand is a market leader that shares our commitment to industry excellence and delivering smart, sustainable and innovative solutions,” Vass said.
Legrand Australia distributes electrical and digital infrastructure solutions under six brands, including Legrand, HPM, Bticino, Starline, Raritan and now, VASS.
Local manufacturing from Legrand’s Australian headquarters in Prestons, Sydney, represents 40% of Legrand Australia’s revenue. The company also has a dedicated R&D team that design products and solutions specifically suited to the needs of the ANZ market.
