NGERS energy reporting discussion paper released

Friday, 16 October, 2009

The Australian Constructors Association (ACA) recently released an industry discussion paper to provide guidance to construction industry organisations with a reporting obligation under the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007 (NGER Act).

ACA Executive Director Jim Barrett stated that the discussion paper provided a consistent, best-practice, principles-based approach to reporting, in line with the framework of the NGER Act and the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Guidelines.

“It aims to provide structure and guidance, to improve the consistency and comparability of reporting within the construction sector, consistent with the NGER legislative framework,” Barrett said. “The industry discussion paper had been prepared following extensive consultations with industry experts and in consultation with the Department of Climate Change's National Greenhouse Energy Reporting Office (GERO) and the Greenhouse and Energy Data Officer (GEDO).

“The industry discussion paper does not replace the need for an entity to determine its own reporting obligations, responsibilities and processes. However, it does fulfil an important role in providing guidance and developing consistency in reporting.

“ACA views this as an iterative document that will need to be reviewed and further developed as the industry confronts its reporting obligations. However, it is an important first step and we hope it will provide an important resource for the industry.”
