Peak industry body for Australian lighting
Lighting Council Australia has commenced operation as a Canberra-based, incorporated peak industry association for the lighting industry.
Bryan Douglas, formerly deputy chief executive of the Australian Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association (AEEMA), has been appointed as the Council’s CEO.
Lighting Council Australia’s chairman, Russell Loane, said that Australia’s lighting industry had reached sufficient critical mass to support a robust and influential association.
“I am confident that Lighting Council Australia will be highly effective in promoting the interests of Australia’s lighting industry,” Loane said.
Douglas said that the lighting industry had a critical role to play in mitigating greenhouse gases and lessening the effects of global warming.
“Lighting Council Australia will engage closely with the Australian Greenhouse Office and other Australian and international agencies to promote energy efficiency in lighting applications,” he said.
Mr Douglas said that key issues for Lighting Council included working with the government on the phase-out of inefficient lamp technologies; assisting members to comply with regulatory requirements (in particular Australia’s EMC framework); contributing to the reform of Australia’s electrical safety regulations and contributing to Australian technical lighting standards.
