Telstra and Clipsal announce FTTP partnership

Monday, 01 March, 2010

Telstra and Clipsal Australia have announced a partnership that will provide thousands of homeowners in Telstra Velocity fibre-to-the-home (FTTP) estates with access to advanced home networking services. Currently, over 135 Telstra Velocity estates are planned across Australia.

This will mean that residents in newly constructed homes in Telstra Velocity estates can, with the right BigPond plan, stream content straight from the internet to their high definition TV, with clarity and speed. Homeowners will also be able to network computers and printers, monitor security cameras on any TV, and have greater flexibility with home phones and television streaming.

Kathrine Dyer, Telstra’s National Manager for Urban Development, said: “We are very pleased to be involved with Clipsal, who are the market leaders in the data and electrical industry, so that we can provide the best possible broadband and home entertainment experience to our customers.”

Mark Vandenberg, General Manager Clipsal Datacomms added: “With the government announcement of the National Broadband Network and draft legislation to mandate the installation of FTTP in all new developments, the timing is perfect for such an alliance.

“The partnership will bring technology and the user experience together, and prepare homes for new technologies in the future. Our aim is for Telstra and Clipsal Australia to make it easy for residents who will be living in these homes, and to get the most benefit for them.

“Homeowners now have the ability to stream content, network computers and printers, connect telephony devices, reticulate TV signal, monitor security cameras on any TV monitor throughout the home. These things require reliability, which can only be achieved with hard wiring. The key is to plan the home wiring prior to the building stage.”

Residents in Telstra Velocity FTTP estates will be able to access these services simply by connecting a computer with an audio and video outlet to the high-speed network, and from that AV outlet with an appropriate cable to a high definition TV.
