Entries for the Brightest Spark competition are closing soon and Master Electricians Australia (MEA) is urging apprentices to get their entries in to avoid missing out.

The Brightest Spark competition aims to curb the recent spate of severe electrical safety incidents in New South Wales by recognising safety-conscious electrical apprentices. Entries for the competition close at the end of the month.

“The Brightest Spark competition allows electrical apprentices across the state to test their knowledge in electrical safety, and hopefully reduce the risk of electrical safety incidents in the workplace,” said MEA NSW State Manager Jody McGann.

“NSW has had a number of electrical safety incidents take place in the past year involving apprentices, but these tragedies could have been easily avoided through employing proper or stricter safety precautions and protocol in the workplace.

“It is hoped the Brightest Spark competition will help break the trend of practising bad electrical safety habits and trigger apprentices state-wide to not only become more aware of electrical safety through testing their safety know-how, but also become more cautious and knowledgeable when working with electrics.”

The competition is open to all electrical apprentices in NSW in their respective apprentice year category,” McGann said.

“Budding young sparkies from first through fourth year will be tested on their electrical safety knowledge via a series of questions in quiz format and based on their respective apprentice year,” she said.

“We’ve got exclusive prizes up for grabs for the winner of each category; and as an added incentive, we’ll make sure winners stay in their boss’s good books and send their boss a prize too!”

To enter the Brightest Spark competition, go to www.masterelectricians.com.au, call 1300 889 198 or visit the MEA Facebook page.
