ACT government releases ‘Monergy’ program to save energy
The Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell, has launched the ACT government's new energy-efficiency campaign ACTSmart - Monergy, which is designed to help people save money by cutting their personal energy use.
“‘Monergy’ is the combination of the words ‘money’ and ‘energy’ and represents the significant savings people can make just by reducing their energy use,” Corbell said. "The message is simple - ACTSmart and save Monergy.”
The government has a range of rebates, incentives and advice available through the ACTSmart program, which received $19.1 million in the most recent Budget.
“The government has many programs that can help people save Monergy including the Community Energy Grants Program, Home Energy Advice Team, Home Energy Action Kits and energy-efficiency rebates,” Corbell added. “Each of these is an example of a low-cost or even free initiative provided to Canberrans and underlines one of the key messages of this campaign: you do not need to spend lots of money in order to save some Monergy.
“The government is also investigating possible legislation that would mandate energy companies to provide additional energy-efficiency measures to consumers, particularly those on low incomes. The government is very committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and is working towards carbon neutrality by 2060. All of these small actions can have big results and I encourage everyone to save a little bit of Monergy every day.”
Last week, Corbell officially launched the ACT’s participation in Earth Hour 2010, which takes place at 8.30 pm on Saturday 27 March, making the Monergy campaign even more relevant.
