Aust solar powers regional cricket club
Australian solar panel manufacturer Tindo has donated $10,000 worth of solar panels to Tanunda Cricket Club in South Australia.
As part of Tanunda Recreation Park, the club has recently been named the South Australian Cricket Association’s (SACA) Facility of the Year 2023–2024, in recognition of its significant contribution to the local community.
Thanks to Tindo’s donation of 74 Walara Series solar panels, the club now has a 31.45 kW solar system that will help it to generate its own clean energy while cutting power costs. The solar upgrade will also offset approximately 25 tonnes of CO2 each year — the equivalent of planting over 4670 trees during the lifetime of the system.
Designed and engineered in South Australia, the Walara Series solar panels are the eighth generation of modules produced by Tindo. According to the company, they are the only Australian-made solar panels to carry the ‘Australian Made’ certification and to incorporate the more resilient N-Type cells.
“We are incredibly grateful to Tindo for this generous contribution,” said Tanunda Cricket Club President Stuart Swan. “This solar system will make a significant difference to our club’s operations, helping us become more sustainable while also reducing our energy costs.
“Those savings can now go back into providing cricket programs for the local community as well as purchasing equipment for our players. It’s great to see local businesses supporting local clubs, and this partnership with Tindo is a fantastic example of community spirit at its best.”
Tanunda Cricket Club’s Solar Energy System project was also supported by a $20,000 Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund grant, jointly funded by both Cricket Australia and the South Australian Cricket Association, as well as a $15,500 contribution from The Barossa Council.
Alicia Clutterham, SACA’s Head of Infrastructure and Government Relations, said the association was thrilled to see Tindo working with the Tanunda Cricket Club, The Barossa Council and SACA to further increase the ESD elements of the 2023–24 SACA Community Cricket Facility of the Year.
“33% of venues used for cricket in South Australia feature solar panels and we are pleased to see Tanunda Cricket Club building on this in collaboration with Tindo and The Barossa Council,” she said.
Tindo CEO Richard Petterson said, “This is a special moment where Australian manufacturing and innovation are providing clean, renewable energy for local Aussie clubs and businesses.
“We’re proud to donate our Walara Series solar panels to Tanunda Cricket Club — a club that shares the same values of community, sustainability and local support that Tindo stands for.”
