Tesla Powerwall has landed in Australia

Tesla Powerwall, a much-anticipated energy storage solution for the residential and light commercial market, is now available through Australian resellers such as Origin Energy and CSR Bradford.

CSR Bradford announced its collaboration to install the Powerwall battery technology into Australian and New Zealand homes from early 2016, just days after Origin Energy announced its product offering.

CSR Bradford said it will supply and install a fully integrated and automated system including PV panels and inverter, which can be fitted indoors or outdoors, while Origin will sell Powerwall as part of an integrated package involving a battery, rooftop solar panels and an inverter.

Anthony Tannous, executive general manager of CSR Bradford, said Australia is well positioned for widespread adoption of battery storage due to its sun exposure, high energy prices and strong take-up of rooftop solar systems, and early adopters can expect to soon see measurable energy savings.

“CSR Bradford’s battery solutions, provided by Tesla Energy, will enable our customers to achieve far better savings on their electricity bills, as well as an increased capability to use renewable energy sources to power their homes,” said Tannous.

“Just as Tesla has revolutionised electric vehicles, Tesla Energy’s Powerwall will deliver consumers personal control and management of energy consumption. Savings in electricity are now easily achievable.”

Origin’s chief executive officer energy markets, Frank Calabria, said the company is happy to be partnering with Tesla to provide Origin’s first solar and battery offering.

“Origin is providing customers with a simple, no-fuss solution by allowing them to buy their solar system, inverter and battery product from us, have it installed and monitored by us, and enjoy the benefits of our post-sales service support,” said Calabria.

“Home batteries will not be for everyone at this early stage, but with more than 80% of solar PV owners in a recent survey indicating they would consider buying a home battery, Origin is ideally placed to help consumers find the right solution for them with our end-to-end offering.”
