Council adopts 'Secure Power as a Service' model

Greater Shepparton City Council (GSCC) is working with Schneider Electric to transition its operations from a capital expenditure (CapEx) model to a fully managed service over the next four years.

Under the new agreement, GSCC will replace its traditional model, including unpredictable costs and high operational expenditure (OpEx) charges, with a recurring service solution where Schneider Electric oversees the assets in place over their lifecycle.

“We are excited to work with Greater Shepparton City Council and offer a modern approach to maintaining infrastructure and systems, without worrying about capital expenditure and power supply disruptions. This new partnership demonstrates Schneider Electric’s commitment to building innovative solutions to help customers meet their business goals for sustainability and efficiency,” said James Hunt, Schneider Electric’s Vice President Power Systems and Services.

The new model takes the form of ‘Secure Power as a Service’ — a unique offering developed by Schneider Electric. GSCC is among the first local government institutions to adopt of this type of service model.

Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is essential to GSCC’s operations to ensure the council’s services have access to continuous power to operate, despite outages, power surges or other possible interruptions. Through the partnership, the operational responsibility of maintaining and overseeing these assets will be assumed by Schneider Electric, giving GSCC access to the expertise of a leading global manufacturer.

This will free up GSCC’s employees to focus on core business outcomes that ultimately serve residents and other stakeholders of the council. Additionally, with a more reliable flow of energy to critical assets, GSCC can provide better access to services.

“Thanks to this partnership with Schneider Electric, we can prioritise activities and resources to help council thrive — which will ultimately help us focus on moving the needle for our wider community,” said Greater Shepparton City Council’s Director Corporate Services, Chris Teitzel.
