Eaton revamps DC power portfolio for 5G era
Power management company Eaton has unveiled a new DC power portfolio at Data Centre World 2019, and has launched the product range in Australia and New Zealand.
The new DC range is designed to meet the expected significantly higher power needs of customers amid the global rollout of 5G.
Significant upgrades to traditional power supplies will be needed to support 5G networks. One of the key products in the one DC range is a system controller that is one of the first DC products tailored to 5G cellular deployments with integrated lithium-ion battery support.
“Lithium batteries are an ideal solution to reduce mains modernisation through intelligent peak clipping, and to achieve real-time monitoring,” said Eaton General Manager for Power Quality John Atherton.
“Eaton’s DC portfolio offers lithium-ion battery integration, giving customers full control and monitoring for demanding applications such as 5G, IoT and Edge.”
The expanded product range also includes a system designed to help telecommunications operators achieve network-wide reductions in energy consumption to meet their carbon footprint reduction targets.
Atherton said energy efficiency and intelligent energy storage are essential features for the operation of 5G networks.
“We look forward to working with our customers and partners to support the evolution from traditional power to intelligent DC power systems with advanced power and electronics technologies,” he said.
