Switchboards for wastewater plant

Tuesday, 09 October, 2007

Noja Power has recently delivered three main switchboards to the Australian Infrastructure Alliance for the Cleveland Bay Wastewater Treatment facility in Townsville.

The Australian Infrastructure Alliance comprises a number of organisations working together under the "Water Matters' umbrella to complete significant infrastructure upgrades in North Queensland. The upgrade to the wastewater treatment facility will be the largest treatment plant of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.

The three switchboards have a PLC-controlled automatic transfer system to switch load to a backup generator in the event of loss of mains supply. Terasaki ACBs provide the necessary mechanical interlock to ensure that only one or another of the supplies is on at any one time.

The switchboards incorporate arc fault detection to ensure instantaneous isolation via the upstream 11 kV breaker in the event of an arc fault. One of the switchboards caters for a future Biogas co-generation facility by including provision for Ergon Energy metering and remote connection/disconnection of the generator.
