Telstra wins Asia Awards
Australia’s biggest telco, Telstra, took top honours in the Telecom Asia Awards last week, claiming the trophies for Best Asian Carrier and Best Mobile Carrier.
It is the first time the full-service provider has won either of the awards, which have been presented annually to Asian service providers since 1998.
Executives from Telstra, along with eight other winning telco companies from across the Asia–Pacific region, were presented with their trophies in a ceremony at the Indigo Pearl in Phuket.
“These awards are intended to reward outstanding performance in Asian telecommunications," said Joseph Waring, Telecom Asia group editor.
"Telstra’s successes are clearly recognition for its rapid rollout and launch of Next G, and the impact the mobile broadband service has had on the market.”
Mike Wright, Telstra’s executive director (wireless), said the services provided by the company were continuing to advance at a fast pace.
“Our AU$1.1 billion investment in a national high-speed wireless broadband network and our market-based management initiatives are growing mobile services revenue and average revenue per user (ARPU) at world-leading levels,” he said.
“Later this year, we will raise the bar even higher as we increase peak network downlink speeds on our Telstra Next G wireless broadband network from 14.4 to 21 Mbps.”
