Wednesday, 24 October, 2007 | Supplied by: Schneider Electric

The Telemecanique XPS MF range of programmable safety PLCs has been designed for applications requiring multiple simultaneous safety functions up to performance level 'e' according to EN ISO 13849-1, up to category 4 in accordance with AS 4024 and SIL 3 (claim limit) in accordance with EN/IEC 61508.

The range comprises an extensive list of compact safety PLCs, compact safety remote I/O modules and modular safety PLCs.

The flagship product can manage up to 64 safety remote I/O modules, consists of 24 configurable digital inputs/outputs and eight line control outputs. In addition to the standard integrated I/O, supporting decentralised input/output modules can also be interconnected.

Communication of safety-related data between the safety PLC and decentralised I/O modules is via ethernet using integrated SafeEthernet protocol. It can also be integrated within a standard industrial architecture using Modbus TCP/IP or connected as a Modbus Serial (RTU) slave or Profibus DP slave.

The safety PLC is programmed using a Windows-based software, which allows the hardware and software to be configured separately, enabling users to create a program and then assign all the PLCs remote I/O in the hardware programming environment and vice versa.
