Government backs real-time traffic apps
The NSW Government has been working with mobile developers since late 2014 to create a number of apps aimed at assisting road users plan trips and avoid traffic.
Both Transport for NSW and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) are keen to assist customers by providing accurate information on travel times, congestion, hazards and other road incidents.
The apps put traffic information at customers’ fingertips so they know exactly what’s going on along their planned travel route, and what they should do to avoid congestion and delays before they begin their journey.
The RMS states that each app has different features, enabling customers to determine the best one for them:
- Snarl gives up-to-date information about road incidents and congestion across the road network and close to the customer’s travel route or location. It is available on iOS, Android and online.
- TripGo is for customers who want to find the most efficient journey from A to B using road and public transport options. It designs smart itineraries around information on home, work and calendar events. It is available on iOS and Android.
- Auto is for customers who have a number of locations they often travel to and who want to see the current travel time to help them plan when to leave. It is available on iOS.
- Plan A helps customers with a busy schedule who want up-to-date information on congestion, suggested travel times and alerts ensuring they leave and arrive on time. It is available on iOS.
- EasyDrop is for commercial delivery drivers who want an interactive tool to manage their daily delivery schedule, plan for the fastest routes and be up to date with traffic conditions. It is available on iOS.
