End of the road for FJ Cruiser
Toyota has announced the end of the road for the FJ Cruiser, the retro-inspired, rugged off-roader that was launched in Australia in 2011.
The production run will end in August this year, with local drivers having bought more than 11,000 in total — about 180 per month — which apparently surpassed projected figures. Toyota says the vehicle drew its inspiration and design cues from the maker’s famed FJ40 and was developed as a basic, capable and affordable vehicle aimed at off-roaders looking to push the limits.
The company says the FJ Curiser provided the ability to traverse rugged outback trails while offering plenty of utility for all types of activities and being equally well-suited to everyday driving. It says it will leave lasting memories as one of the most iconic vehicles in Toyota’s rich SUV history, helping to bring renewed energy to the brand.
