Industry experts address fleet forum
If you haven’t registered yet for the upcoming AfMA Professional Development Fleet Forums, this might provide some more incentive.
Speakers at the Sydney event (8 March 2016) include mechanical engineer Robert McDonald, from IAG Insurance’s Research Center in Sydney. McDonald is at the pointy end of vehicle safety, is currently an ANCAP Council and Technical Committee member and is part of the Australian Driverless Vehicle Initiative. He’ll be speaking on the topic of Advanced Safety System and Insurance Costs at the MGSM Conference Centre, Macquarie Park.
“Modern electronic safety systems are continuing to influence vehicle claims,” said McDonald, “from ABS in the ’80s, to autonomous emergency braking, automatic steering and auto parking, these systems will eventually have a major role in the fully autonomous vehicles we expect in the next 10–20 years.”
Ann Williamson from University of NSW, a professor of aviation safety and specialist in industrial relations and occupational health formerly with the NSW Government, will lead the discussion on the Effectiveness of Driver Assistance Systems.
Her experience in the research of every aspect of vehicle, transport, ergonomic and workplace risk and safety assessment is extensive. Be ready to absorb her industry knowledge and expertise.
The Victorian event, held 10 March 2016, will feature a presentation by Justin Passapotis on the business success story that is GoGet.com.au. Passapotis will transport you through the carsharing phenomenon outlining the basic concept, where it started and where it’s going. It will be a broad, interactive conversation about the goals and achievements of not only GoGet but the changing face of personal transport.
“We want to engage the audience and invite response,” he said. “I’m going to literally ask people ‘How did you get here today?’ and help people understand the trajectory of transport. I’ll also dispel some myths, while relating back to the fleet management game and corporate responsibility to reducing our footprint.”
‘Smart mobility’ is the crux of Justin’s informative and refreshing conversation.
“You’ll be asking yourself ‘Why haven’t we thought of this before?’ and that’s the best part — striving to do better,” he said.
Big business or small, there’s nowhere to hide as society demands a greener transportation model. We must take responsibility with carbon emissions and Justin Glass from GreenFleet will help you find those pathways. Government legislation, climate change and technology, but, most importantly, people are demanding efficiency and innovation to make what we do easier on our lonely little planet.
“Do you manage your fleet, or does your fleet manage you?” Glass asks. There’s no denying we all have a duty to take steps forward. Making carbon offsetting a priority is just one sure-fire way to kickstart your fleet’s leaner, greener modus operandi.
