Wi-Fi access valued more than sex

Yep, you read that right.

In one of this year's cheekiest new product media releases, networking solutions provider Linksys has included results of a sponsored InfoBrief published by International Data Corporation (IDC) titled 'The Home Network: Our Neglected Warhorse'. IDC surveyed 1000 participants in the United States that lived in households of three or more people to determine how adults use their internet-connected devices at home and what pain points they might have when it comes to streaming video, audio or online games.

The report outlines the technical issues and limitations with current and older Wi-Fi technology, as you would expect. However, it also asked participants to nominate things that they could not live without. In order of magnitude these were reported as:

  1. Food
  2. Wi-Fi
  3. A smartphone
  4. Sex
  5. TV
  6. Good conversation
  7. Games
  8. Holidays
  9. Alcohol

Well, that's just plain depressing. So, before you suggest a rousing game of Scrabble and a chat over a few wines while you're on holidays with some friends, you'd better make sure the Wi-Fi is up and running... or you'll have a mutiny on your hands.
