Yet more truck recall notices issued

Friday, 05 June, 2015

Suspicious minds could be forgiven for thinking there are greater forces at play, with the release of yet more product recall notices affecting Australian truck fleets.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has identified an issue with Freightliner trucks (Argosy with Cummins ISX Engines) - the end cap on the after treatment device (ATD) may fail, allowing hot exhaust gases to escape resulting in possible damage to components including the pneumatic brake lines. This may result in automatic application of the trailer brakes causing an accident hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users. The affected vehicles were sold nationally between 1 September 2011 and 31 January 2015. This recall involves 291 vehicles bearing the mark C1619/RC2046 and owners will be contacted directly.

While for Volvo Group Australia, the brake hoses on front-axle FH vehicles (identified by the C3300 mark) are too short, which can be stretched in certain driving applications. This could lead to air leakage in the parking brake air circuit, causing the parking brakes to be unintentionally applied on the front wheels, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users.

Volvo Group advises owners to take the truck into their closest repairing dealer.
