Megger FRAX sweep frequency response analysers

Friday, 19 February, 2010 | Supplied by: Megger Limited

The FRAX sweep frequency response analyser reveals potential electrical and mechanical problems in power transformers, many of which are not detectable using other methods.

The self-contained analysers feature an integral PC, backlit colour screen and 0.1 Hz to 25 MHz test-frequency range that can be set to match specific application needs.

The instrument applies a sweep frequency test signal (1046 default test points per sweep, extendable to 32,000) to the transformer and monitors its response, resulting in a unique fingerprint which, when compared with a reference fingerprint for the same transformer, reveals various faults, including winding deformations and displacements, shorted and open windings, loose and broken clamping structures, core connection problems and core movement.

Three versions are available - mid-range FRAX101 operates from an internal battery and supports Bluetooth for wire-free usage; FRAX101 offers the same performance as the FRAX150 but with additional functionality and is designed for use with an external PC; and the economical FRAX99 is for applications where many of the FRAX101 functions aren’t needed.

The portable analysers are suited to field use and are supplied with ground cable, four 3 m braid sets, two ‘C’ clamps, 18 m generator cable, 18 m test cable and software.
