Cable jointing system

The Lovink-Enertech B.V medium voltage cable joints are claimed to solve problems associated with cable jointing such as the ingress of moisture and water, which can lead to catastrophic arcing failure of the joint.

The joints provide homogeneous electric fields, suitable for all cable types including 0.6/1 (1.2 kV), 6/10/12 kV, 12/20 (24 kV), 19/33 (36 kV) polymeric (XLPE, EPR), paper insulated (PILAS, PILC), polymeric-to-polymeric, paper-to-paper and paper-to-polymeric used in electricity distribution and supply networks.

The ‘Lovisil K’ system consists of a joint procedure which contains cables within an inner, lightweight polyester mould housing, which is filled with silicone fluid that remains fluid, providing optimal insulation and electrical properties, thereby minimising the risk of partial discharges caused by air inclusion bubbles.

The jointing system is claimed to be mechanically strong, with a failure rate of less than 0.05%, water- and corrosion-proof to 20 m head of water, and has a minimum 30-year life span.

A rodent- and termite-proof option is also available.
