ACT fast-tracks the Feed-in Tariff

Thursday, 18 December, 2008

The ACT's renewable energy Feed-in Tariff scheme will be implemented by 1 March 2009, Simon Corbell, Minister for Energy, announced recently.

"The ACT Labor government will fast track the introduction of the renewable energy Feed-in Tariff from July to March 2009. This project is one of the top priorities of my new department, the Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water (DECCEW)," Corbell said.

"Labor's nation-leading Feed-in Tariff will reward households and local businesses that install small- to medium-scale renewable energy generators by paying a premium price for any electricity they produce.

"The ACT scheme will be the most generous in Australia. Our Feed-in Tariff will pay a premium price for all electricity produced, rather than just paying for excess electricity returned to the grid as in other jurisdictions. The scheme will also support local renewable industries and will help to reduce the ACT's carbon footprint," he said.

Details on how the scheme functions will be provided to ACT residents, to help them understand and become involved in the system.
