Call for industry comment on changes to wiring rules

Thursday, 27 September, 2012

A review of wiring rules has raised a call for public comment from the cabling and telecommunications industries. DR AS/CA S009:2012 Installation requirements for customer cabling (Wiring Rules) is a revision of the 2006 edition of the AS/ACIF S009 Standard Wiring Rules.

Among the changes to the standard are new and revised requirements across hazardous areas, cables in conduits, jointing methods, connection of customer cabling to equipment, separation from non-electrical hazardous services, fibre-optic cleaning and inspection, fibre-optic labelling of panels and enclosures, underground conduit and pits, cabling between buildings on premises, cabling for external antennas, network boundaries and a new appendix providing guidance for cabling in domestic premises.

Communications Alliance is encouraging industry professionals to provide input. The draft standard is available here.
