Industry interest called for on ACT solar facility
The ACT Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell, recently announced the formal calling of expressions of interest (EOI) in the proposed ACT solar power facility. The EOI is the first step in a two-stage process, with the request for detailed proposals set to follow the formal evaluation of the EOI.
“The calling for EOI is both a major milestone in our journey towards becoming the solar capital and a clear and a firm signal to industry of our commitment to establishing the facility,” said Corbell. “The government had adopted a goal of achieving zero net emissions in the ACT. The establishment of a large-scale solar facility will be a tangible step in achieving that vision.
“The government will commit $30 million towards the facility. We are prepared to make a substantial contribution towards establishing this facility and to building a firm foundation for renewable energy generation in the ACT.
"Through the EOI, we are seeking proposals for a solar power facility that uses commercially proven direct solar technology, is capable of providing power to at least 10,000 homes, is located within the ACT, is commercially viable and meets the scheduled generator requirements under the National Electricity Market."
The EOI process will close 9 July 2009, with detailed evaluation to be conducted throughout July and August. It is expected that a request for detailed proposals (RFDP) will be issued in September 2009 to selected respondents from Stage 1. The evaluation panel will comprise membership from across the ACT government.
