Ian Harwood, M.AIRAH, associate director, Norman Disney & Young, has been elected as an interim board member pending AIRAH’s annual general meeting later this year.

“Ian is a valuable addition to our board, bringing fresh ideas, interests and a new perspective,” said AIRAH CEO Phil Wilkinson, F.AIRAH. Harwood is based in NDY’s Perth office and has 20 years of experience in the building services industry, including time spent working abroad. With an avid interest in the technical side of the industry, he has also been active in the design and management of projects.

Harwood boasts considerable experience working on a broad variety of building types, with particular expertise in high-rise residential, hotel and commercial buildings, as well as data centres. He has a special interest in designing for humid climates and is passionate about training and development for younger engineers.

A member of AIRAH’s WA division committee, for which he previously served as president, Harwood replaces Ross Angel, M.AIRAH, who has joined the institute’s Queensland division committee. “As a board member, I bring a measured approach that is sensitive to the membership base,” Harwood says. “I am passionate about our industry and ensuring that the younger people coming into our industry are nurtured so that we see the succession plan to enable the next leaders of our industry emerge.

“We have been seeing a growth in AIRAH membership over the past few years, and as the membership grows, so does our collective voice in the industry.”
