Smart metering forums
Industry and government stakeholders are invited to attend a series of forums facilitated by Standards Australia throughout 2016 to work on developing a Roadmap for Advanced Metering.
The work is designed to support the safe and efficient rollout of smart meters in Australia as the country progressively transitions to a smarter economy.
Since Australian Standards for metering date back to 2006 it is now considered necessary to update standards to reflect advancements in technology and metering equipment.
The International Electrotechnical Commission Technical Committee 13 (IEC TC 13 Metering Equipment) has already developed a series of standards incorporating technological advancements.
The roadmap, through a series of forums to be held in 2016, will allow industry and government stakeholders to assess current standards and to identify international standards for use in Australia.
Important metering issues including safety, tariffs and load control, testing, Australian community expectations and temperature ranges will be considered for the roadmap.
Companies such as Vector, Origin, the Energy Networks Association, Landis+Gyr and EDMI are currently working with Standards Australia to lead efforts to develop the roadmap.
